In the global wave of energy transition, renewable energy and green technology have emerged as pivotal forces guiding the future. Among them, solid-state battery technology, with its core advantages such as high energy density, outstanding safety, and rapid charging capabilities, is gradually coming into prominence and becoming an investment hot spot.
Recently, Wenzhou Guansheng Auto Parts Group Co., Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as " GSP ") and Jilin Dongchi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as " DC Energy "), have formed a joint venture company named “Zhejiang GSP&DC Energy Technology Co., Ltd.” (hereinafter referred to as " Baxpower"), and held an exchange meeting in Shanghai regarding their solid-state battery cooperation project. During the meeting, both parties elaborated on the cooperation background, their respective strengths, and the future plans of the joint ventures.
Richard Zhou, President of GSP, said at the meeting that the company has always kept up with the development trend of the new energy industry and actively explored innovative paths. By establishing a strategic partnership with Sinomach Precision Industry Group Co., Ltd., they jointly developed new energy automotive parts and participated in the investment of new energy funds to ensure keeping up with the current trends of new energy technology. This time, the cooperation between GSP and Jilin Dongchi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. to enter the new energy solid-state battery market not only realizes the complementary advantages of technology and resources but also represents a deep layout and strategic expansion in overseas markets.
Founded in 1985, GSP boasts a product line spanning multiple series including constant velocity joints, drive shafts, hub assemblies, rubber to metal parts, steering & suspension parts as well as shock absorbers. After more than four decades of development, the company has continuously upgraded and optimized its one-stop multi-product solution supply chain platform, transforming itself into a comprehensive service provider across the entire value chain in the global aftermarket.
Moreover, as early as 2003, GSP embarked on a global strategy to adapt to the diverse needs and characteristics of different regions and countries. Today, it has established 9 distribution centers and 8 business centers worldwide, with products exported to six continents - Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Oceania, and Africa, covering a marketing network spanning over 120 countries and regions globally. It provides high-quality, compatible auto parts and related services to the global automotive parts market.
President Richard Zhou further pointed out that the company will fully depend on its overseas market channels, services, and brand advantages to facilitate the commercial application of DC Energy, accelerate the industry-wide adoption of solid-state battery technology, and contribute new power to the industry's development.
Dr. Cong, the R&D Director of DC Energy, elaborated on the company's technological accumulation and innovative achievements in the field of polymer solid-state batteries. DC Energy's core technology team, supported by Professor Haiming Xie's lithium battery R&D team, boasts resources such as the Ministry of Education's "Collaborative Innovation Platform for Solid-State Batteries" and the National Development and Reform Commission's "National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Power Batteries." The Collaborative Innovation Platform for Solid-State Batteries is the only government-led innovation consortium for solid-state batteries, pioneering the industrialization of domestic polymer-based solid-state batteries. Over the years, the company has focused on the research, development, and production of polymer solid-state lithium batteries, and to date, it holds over 60 invention patents related to polymer solid-state batteries.
The company has established the country's first 0.5GWh polymer-based energy storage solid-state battery demonstration line. This line has pioneered the development of semi-solid LFP batteries, utilizing in-situ ultraviolet light technology to prepare polymer composite electrolyte membranes. It combines cost-effective and high-performance non-flammable electrolytes as a double insurance to enhance battery application safety. High-power, high-thermal stability lithium iron phosphate is used as the positive, and a secondary ultraviolet light curing modification and lithium supplementation layer is applied to the surface of the graphite anode, achieving an ultra-long cycle life from multiple angles such as electrode material selection and structural design.
Dr. Cong stated that DC Energy 's quasi-solid-state battery, backed by three groundbreaking innovative technologies, has realized a high-safety 450Wh/kg polymer-based solid-state battery. The core technologies include ultraviolet light-induced cross-linked polymerised to prepare high-voltage-resistant ion-conductive elastomeric polymer electrolytes, achieving a high room-temperature ionic conductivity of 10-3S/cm and an oxidation resistance potential greater than 4.5V, with an elastic elongation rate exceeding 1000%. The introduction of non-flammable monomers during the polymerization process, with their ultra-low glass transition temperature (-80°C), enables the polymer electrolyte membrane to be equally suitable for low temperatures (-20°C).
The technology breaking the barrier of existing solid-state batteries' inability to operate at low temperatures. Through the design of a metal lithium surface shielding film, a highly stable and low-impedance solid-solid interface is constructed, filling the technical gap in the application of metal lithium anodes. The company is also actively deploying the research and development of polymer all-solid-state lithium batteries. She believes that through continuous original technological innovation, new momentum will be injected into the development of energy storage and power battery industries.
Since the announcement of the semi-solid battery cooperation project between GSP and DC Energy, it has attracted significant market attention. Chang Li, Chairman of the joint venture, stated that Baxpower as a core subsidiary of GSP, will focus on the research and development and production of new energy solid-state battery technology.
DC Energy has established a 0.5GWh solid-state battery demonstration line in Changchun, and the construction of the joint venture's first-phase modern smart factory for 2.1 million battery cells and systems has commenced in Wenzhou. The new factory will strictly adhere to international standards and industry norms for production and management to ensure that product quality and performance reach the highest industry standards, providing markets and customers with high-safety, long-life semi-solid lithium batteries. These products have a wide range of applications, including household energy storage, industrial and commercial energy storage, large-scale energy storage power stations, special vehicles, electric boats, etc. The company strives to occupy a larger share in the future new energy market.
Industry analysts generally believe that the rise of the solid-state battery market has brought unprecedented opportunities to the industry. With the continuous maturation of technology and the expansion of application fields, the commercialization prospects of solid-state battery technology are increasingly clear, and its investment value and market potential deserve investors' close attention. The powerful alliance between GSP and DC Energy will undoubtedly accelerate the industrialization process of solid-state battery technology, injecting new vitality into the new energy sector.
